Activities
This page sets out what HADAF has actually held since 2021 — cultural events, concerts, film screenings, courses and public demonstrations. All of it is organised by volunteer members; HADAF has no paid staff.
Cultural occasions
Fly With Me is a kite festival held in solidarity with the Afghan people. It was created by the British theatre company Good Chance Theatre, which launched it across 15 locations in the UK and Europe in August 2022 — HADAF took part from the start. We have held it three times: in 2022, 2024, and most recently on 15 August 2026 in Fælledparken, Copenhagen, together with Kulturforeningen Ma.
Nowruz, the Persian and Afghan new year, has been marked with shared meals and music — in 2023 with 200 to 250 people attending. Shab-e Yalda, the longest night of the year, is marked with poetry, food and company. Hazara Culture Day and film screenings have included Ilyas Yourish's Kamay in June 2026 and a Hazara Film Festival with the Danish Film Institute's Cinemateket in 2023.
Courses and public education
HADAF has held first-aid courses in Dari since February 2025; TrygFonden granted DKK 29,000 in June 2026 towards another. We also hold public talks and concerts, including an evening with the singer Elaha Soroor.
Advocacy
We inform the Danish public about the persecution of the Hazara people and about the situation of Afghan refugees. In October 2022 HADAF held a demonstration against the genocide of Hazaras following the bombing of an educational institution in Kabul, as part of global demonstrations in more than 100 cities. In 2023 we demonstrated outside the Iranian embassy in Copenhagen over Iran's treatment of Afghan refugees.
On 26 August 2026 HADAF held a demonstration on Christiansborg Slotsplads in partnership with Amnesty International Denmark, in support of civilians and civilian protesters in Herat.
Asylum matters
HADAF does not give legal advice and does not represent people in asylum cases. If you need advice on an asylum or migration matter, we refer you to the Danish Refugee Council's free advice service.
